Though it turns out that the orbs start to take control of the user if they have a weak mindĪctually this is a thing in the anime as well, Archie get's possessed by the Red Orb, and Ash's Pikachu get's possessed by the Blue 1.Ĭelebi, yea, Celebi was kind of an ass pull, thoth I feel it could have been solved if it had been built up more prior to that point (Ex. While better than in previous chapters, I personally think it's still a bit forced, and that Adventures would be better off just ditching romance from its plot (which thankfully it does in most chapters from now on). It comes off as even more lazy since Celebi resolved the conflicts of the GSC chapter as well, but I suppose Jirachi was off limits because of the Emerald chapter.Īs for the romance in this chapter, which is why it's also the most popular so far. Speaking of, why would Ruby need to use Celebi against that Seviper? He's supposed to be a very competent battler, he definitely didn't need Celebi so he wouldn't have used it. This actually stops me from enjoying this chapter again now, especially considering I now know about the asspull. He's not a bad character in this arc, he's actually really good, but the following chapters just have him completely forget that he learnt to stop running away from his problems in this chapter (because let's face it, Ruby is one of the few dexholders that didn't need to receive any more development after his chapter was over). I used to love this chapter, but then Ruby in the Emerald and ORAS chapters happened, and now I basically dislike him. Or they didn't feel like showing the results of all these deaths, either way, an obvious deus ex machina. They just couldn't let anyone die because they might need them in the future. The romance and conflict they got into felt a bit forced, though they do feel more like real people than the previous protagonists did, though that's not saying much.Īnd don't get me started on Celebi. Ruby and Sapphire were an interesting pair. They straight up want to destroy the world, why are they fighting each other over how to do it? It was an interesting choice making the most well intentioned team leaders into psychopathic maniacs, though now their goals make even less sense. They swapped the roles most would be expecting them to play, Archie being the smart one, and Maxie takes the role of the drunk living in a cave. There are some hiccups (some way bigger than others), some characters not making sense and some things seeming too random.Īrchie and Maxie were interesting. This chapter is arguably one of the best.
